Hello everyone … Captain John Secondi with a few general video production tips and tricks for you …
When shooting video with your mobile phone you should try to use landscape or widescreen mode. Holding it vertically will not produce the best results and after you have imported the raw video into an editing program you will need to fix the black vertical bars that appear on each side.
Background noise could ruin your recording and can be challenging to fix during the editing process. Poor audio quality will make your video difficult to understand. You can adjust audio levels during editing to ensure the volume remains consistent. Consider using an external microphone with wind sock plugged into your phone or video camera.
Whenever possible you should use a stable tripod for your video production; your hands are not as steady as you may think.
The “Rule of Thirds” is the classic photographic composition principle you should use to create well balanced and interesting shots. Break up your image down into thirds horizontally and vertically and then frame your shot so that your elements are along the lines or intersection of same.
When shooting people as your main subject, you should ensure that there is a sufficient amount of space above their head. Not too much space and don’t cut off their heads either.
